Silverton Church of England Primary School is seeking to appoint a new governor to its governing body.
The School currently has 116 pupils in 5 classes and is situated in beautiful grounds overlooking the village of Silverton. Most of the children come from the Silverton area, so it is very much a community school. It is a Church of England School and the life of the School is underpinned by a Christian ethos. More information about the School can be found on our website <http://www.silverton.devon.sch.uk>.
The present governing body is a friendly group of people drawn from a range of different backgrounds, skills and experience. We share a common desire to see the very best education for the children in our School.
The role of a governor is an important one. The governors are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the school, its vision and ethos, monitoring the educational performance of pupils within the school and overseeing the School finances.
The role is therefore a very rewarding and fulfilling one, and this is an opportunity to make a real difference for the children at the School.
We are looking for someone who is able to give some time to the School to attend the meetings of the full governing body and some of its committees which are held in the early evening and where possible to make occasional visits to the School. Financial experience would be very helpful, but not essential as more important is enthusiasm, interest in supporting the School and the willingness to learn. Support will be given by fellow governors and training will be given for the role both internally and by the local authority.
To apply to become a governor, please contact the School office (01392 860677) or the Clerk to the Governors (Gclerk@silverton.devon.sch.uk) for an application form. There will be an interview with the Headteacher and the Chair of Governors as a part of the admission process. Of course, you would be most welcome to come into School and have a look at what we do before deciding to make an application to become a governor. All applicants will need to be DBS checked before appointment and this will be arranged by the School.
Application forms should be completed and returned to the School by 12 noon on 9th November 2018
If you would like to discuss any aspects of the role before submitting an application, please leave your contact details with the School office and I will be more than happy to call you or meet up for an informal chat.
Chair of Governors.
