The school aims to provide an approach to the curriculum that is flexible enough to match abilities, needs, interests and attainments across the age range. Our curriculum is delivered through a range of topics that aim to make learning meaningful for the children. We encourage the children to develop enquiring minds through practical experiences, physical activities, creative arts and first hand encounters.
Apart from offering high standards in the core curriculum subjects, we believe that it is vitally important to offer pupils opportunities to extend the depth of work in other subject areas such as the arts. We have a very strong tradition in promoting speech and drama work. We offer extra – curricular activities such tag rugby, netball , football, gymnastics and drama.
Children from Year1 through to Year 6 are taught a programme of English and Mathematics from the 2014 National Curriculum. Phonics is continued throughout KS1 and into KS2 using the Early Reading programme. We integrate much of our writing into our termly themes and we use activities from “Talk for Writing” to enhance this. Maths work is based on Hamilton Trust and White Rose Plans and encourages the learning of number facts, as well as work in number, shape, measures and data handling. Where appropriate, using and applying maths concepts are encouraged.
