We are a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class.
Our teacher is Miss Foster
During the last week of term the year 1 children in Maple class were working very hard on research about climate change whilst the year 2 children completed their Secret Agent Training. We have been learning about the Great Barrier Reef through our topic of oceans and seas and the children were very interested by the effects of climate change on the reef.
Using laptops the children conducted research into animals and habitats of the reef and then into climate change effects. The year 1s then shared this information with the year 2 children who did a research project about Sir David Attenborough.
We created a class fish sculpture representing plastic pollution in the ocean and we created a class video about climate change. Children from the rest of the school came to visit Maples learning share before the parents visited at the end of the day.
The children have worked very hard on this topic and it was lovely to see how enthusiastic they were about climate change. The video they created was written, directed and filmed by the children.
Maple class have been looking at the instructional book ‘Outdoor Wonderland’. Inspired by this the children have been working hard on writing their own instructions about den building, fire lighting or clay faces.
We then took Hawthorn class up to Forest School and asked them to follow our instructions. It was a fantastic morning with lots of learning shared between the two class. The children in Hawthorn were very impressed by the writing of year 1 and 2 and gave them a few tips on how they could improve their instructions.
On Wednesday 27th March the children in Maple class went on a special mission into space! First we had to strap ourselves into the Maple class rocket and launch ourselves up to the moon. It was amazing being in space and we found saw lots of interesting and inspiring things to write in our poems.
Maple class braved the M5 and travelled to Bristol to visit a very special science museum called We The Curious. As part our topic ‘Famous for more than 5 minutes’ we have been learning about Mathematicians and Scientists so we were very excited to become one for the day.
We started in the amazing planetarium where we picked up an alien! We were given the task of using our maths knowledge of time, position and direction and 3D shapes. After lunch, we explored the museum and had fun spending time on the interactive games. Finally, we launched our rockets and sent the alien back home.
Unfortunately, Miss Foster forgot the school camera! Luckily Mrs Winter came to the rescue with a disposable camera.
